Greg Grease – Rip Well

Greg Grease – Rip Well

Producer: Mic Titan

Album: Cornbread’s Coming Series

Label: Unsigned

Hailing from the Southside of Minneapolis, emcee Greg Grease describes himself as a “producer by day” and “sh*t talker/MC by night.”  While I’m sure Grease’s sh*t talking is on point, you won’t find any of that on his Mic Titan-produced DJBooth debut.  On Rip Well, the River Life Media artist doesn’t shy away from keeping it real, sharing his convictions on the inner-city violence that is plaguing America on the latest entry in his Cornbread’s Coming series.  The dual-threat reflects on those who he’s lost, rapping, “Send ‘em to the surface where your friends don’t speak, but cry wondering why they had to take ya life.” Expect more of the same on Grease’s forthcoming full-length, Cornbread, Earl & G, projected to be released this fall

It’s hard to believe that well over six months have gone by since Inglewood emcee Thurz was last featured at The DJBooth, but the site fave is back at it with his Rich Kidd and Rocki Evans-assisted new record Keep The Faith. Both Thurz and Toronto beatmaker Rich Kidd delve into the trials and tribulations of life as they drop verses on keeping the faith.  Evans, on the other hand, adds a heavy dose of raw soul to the record, crooning “I’m just, just surviving. Trying to get by/ I’m just, I’m just trying to get by.” Not one to stick solely with emceeing Rich Kidd pulls double duty, assisting Junia-T with the production, which combines bass with keys long after Evans concludes the song with his last sung note. Keep The Faith will be featured on Thurz’ upcoming mixtape 517 W Queen Tape as well as Rich Kidd’s We On Some Rich Kidd Shit Vol. 6.
