Colin Munroe – Unsung Hero

September 12, 2012

Colin Munroe has long considered himself an Unsung Hero in the music game, and for good reason: the Ontario-repping singer, songwriter and producer’s spent the last several years just under the national radar, creating some of the dopest, most innovative work the music industry has seen in a minute. With today’s release of his latest street album via Karmaloop, however, he’s well on his way to getting the attention he deserves. A genre-blending melange of hip-hop, pop, rock, R&B and electronic influences, the project comes on the heels of much-buzzed-about singles “Over It,” “Your Eyes” and “Invincible,” and features an appropriately eclectic slate of guest artists, including Ab-Soul, Cassie, Kendrick Lamar, K.Flay, Memoryhouse and Pusha T. In addition to Munroe’s own production, Unsung Hero packs boardwork by Boi-1da & D10, RZA and more.

Wu-Wednesdays continue on, as we get to hear the latest audible treat from the Wu abbott, featuring Kosha Dillz and Kool G Rap. As usual, RZA leaves us all with an excerpt and quote on how the music all came about. You can read all that below along with the single, enjoy!

RZA drops off a previously unreleased record today courtesy of his twitter page. The song serves as part of his weekly, “Wu-Wednesdays” series, and even though its Thursday, you can still enjoy the single in its full glory below. As with all Wu-Wednesday drops, here is the accompanying quote from RZA courtesy of Bob Marley:

“Every man gotta right to decide his own destiny.” Bob Marley

Last month, Kendrick Lamar offered a visual impression from his studio session with RZA. Now, the California rapper has unleashed its result in the shape of impressive tune “Ronald Reagan Era” powered by The Abbott himself. The track was produced by Tae Beast and will appear on Kendrick’s #Section80, due July 2. This sounds promising.

Here’s another look from the upcoming Wu-Tang project Legendary Weapons. This one featuring an illustrious lineup of RZA, U-God, Cappadonna and Bronz Nazareth, all of which went in on this production. The album meanwhile, is set to hit stores on July 26, 2011 and is executive produced by RZA. More Wu underway, stay tuned!

Here’s a new RZA solo cut off the new Wu-Tang album, Legendary Weapons, which is dropping on E1 on June 28th and will feature production from Noah Rubin, Fizzy Womack bka Lil Fame and Andrew Kelly.

More info:

The Wu-Tang Clan is one of rap music’s longest running and most influential groups. Over the last two years the group has made a remarkable return to form. Beginning with E1′s 2009 release “Wu-Tang: Chamber Music” and continuing with projects such as “Wu-Massacre”, Ghostface Killah’s “Apollo Kids”, Raekwon’s “Only Built For Cuban Linx 2″ and “Wu-Tang vs Shoalin” they have released a series of critically acclaimed and commercially successful projects.

Wu-Tang: Legendary Weapons will continue in that streak. This album includes a heavy dose of Ghostface Killah (he is featured on 8 of the albums 11 songs) alongside The RZA and all of the other core Wu- Tang group members. Dark, raw tracks produced by The RZA together with members of the Brooklyn based band The Revelations provide a solid foundation for the crew’s tales of violent New York street life and debauchery.
